The android’s history

This operative system created by Google is present in two thousand millions of electronic devices and it’s been working for more than a decade of history; it’s a mature system but in the way to the top it’s been necessaries a lot of change and mistakes. In this article we will review the Android’s creation story from the beginning to the actual times reviewing some of their old versions but also seeing what they throw in the past.

The company’s structure was created in the early 2000’s, more precisely in 2003 by Andy Rubin, Rich Miner, Nick Sears and Chris White. They founded the new thing called the Android Inc; with the goal in mid of developing “mobile devices which are connected with the location and user preferences”; then, we can talk about two dates for the Android’s born. The first one was in November 5th of 2007 which is the date for the first open beta of the software; then, in September 23rd of 2008 which is the beginning of the first stable Android’s version, the Android 1.0.

How did they start this new software that changed the world completely?

In a beginning, the first intention was to develop an advanced operative system for digital cameras, but later the developers changed the path when they realize that the digital camera’s market is not big enough so they change their minds and efforts to create a system that could be as good or better than Symbian and Windows Mobile. In 2005, Google bought Android Inc and started to expand a mobile platform based on the Linux’s Kernel; the idea then was to create a blackberry’s similar system; but, in the meantime, iPhone arrives. If they had a touchscreen phone then the Google one may not be less than that. All the settings were changed to include the touchscreen which was complemented by physical buttons and in that moment, they had everything… Excepting the logo. Lucky enough there was a talented designer called Irina Blok and she created Andy, the friendly robot we all know.

In 2008 the first cellphone powered by Android was released; the HTC Dream / T-Mobile G1 with the very first version of the operative system the Android 1.0 and it wasn’t so good to see but, it includes a lot of features that we can still see now day in the newest phones powered by Android, but obviously, they were a lot simpler and rougher.

The years passed and new versions were released; after the 1.0 version then came the 1.5 Android’s Cupcake, then, the 1.6 Android’s Donut, the 2.0 – 2.1 Android’s Éclair and so many more until the last one that is Android’s Pie 9.0. With this last one we can find some huge difference between the first and this. One of the features is the intelligent battery and bright, app actions and slices which ones the system tries to predict what we wanted to do starting off our previous use.
